The Story behind Meadow & Hide
Meadow & Hide grew from a new perspective after a cancer diagnosis.
At the age of 34, as the mother to a four-year old, I was devastated to be diagnosed with breast cancer. My world was turned upside-down and I was terrified for the future. But, after two difficult years of treatments, including chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, I am very pleased to say that I am now doing very well, and am once again in good health.
While recovering I had to find sedentary hobbies and discovered leathercraft. I found the creative process to be very therapeutic. My leathercraft hobby gave me a sense of purpose and I had a feeling of achievement when I’d finish a project. During this time I had lots of opportunities to reflect on what was important to me, and realised I would love to continue to do this work after I recovered, rather than returning to my previous commute. I took comfort and hope from planning for a time when I would be well again and be able to start this exciting new venture, and this was such an important part of my recovery.
I feel incredibly grateful for my health and for the treatments that made my recovery possible. I hope with all my heart that continued research will one day lead to effective treatments for all forms of cancer. 2% of every Meadow & Hide purchase is donated to Breakthrough Cancer Research, see charity donation
