The Process
The process behind each piece
Each bag begins as a hand-drawn design, sketched and constructed in cardboard to create a full mock-up. This step allows the refinement of proportions, structure, and functionality before moving on to final materials.
Once the design is perfected through a series of prototypes, the pattern pieces are carefully transferred onto leather and linen and cut by hand. The raw edges are then sealed with edge paint, with multiple coats applied and sanded between layers to achieve a smooth, durable finish. The Meadow & Hide logo is applied using a combination of heat and pressure, and a handpress is used to secure the rivets. If the bag needs more structure undyed pieces of leather are used to give stability and shape, I don’t use any plastic stabilisers or reinforcement pieces.
The bag is assembled using a sewing machine, with select details handsewn when necessary. All of this takes place in the Meadow & Hide workshop in Co. Laois.
