Sustainable & Ethical

Full-grain and top-grain Leather & Irish Linen.

At Meadow & Hide, sustainability begins with thoughtful material choices and respect for the resources that are available from other industries.

Premium quality leather is sourced from a specialist supplier that recovers hides from leading Italian and European luxury fashion-houses at the the end-of-season. By giving new life to these unused materials, we contribute to a more circular approach to fashion—reducing waste while preserving exceptional quality. As well as using end-of-line leathers, the highest quality full-grain and top-grain leathers are selected, most usually from Italian and Tuscan tanneries, and all leathers used are a by-product of the meat industry.

The lining material is 100% Irish linen, designed in Donegal and woven in Antrim, from flax, a zero-waste crop.

Together, leather and linen reflect the ethos of Meadow & Hide-  belief in the use of the highest quality natural materials, combined with traditional craftsmanship - to create bags designed to be used, cherished, and kept for years to come.

All Meadow and Hide pieces are individually hand-crafted in County Laois. Therefore, you can be assured that as well as being unique, every product is ethically produced to the highest standards.

  • All of the leather used comes from animals raised for food; it is a by-product of the meat industry, ensuring that these hides are used rather than sent to land-fill.

Leather is chosen not only for its beauty, but for its longevity. Unlike synthetic alternatives, high-quality leather is exceptionally durable and develops character over time, ageing gracefully rather than deteriorating.

  • Inside each Meadow & Hide bag, you’ll find 100% Irish linen, designed in Donegal and woven in Antrim using traditional methods. The mill where this linen is woven is powered by renewable energy, which is rated as zero emissions, and meets ISO 14001 environmental standards. As it’s left undyed, the linen is fully biodegradable and can return to the earth without leaving harmful residues.

Linen is made from flax, a remarkably low-impact crop that grows with rainfall alone and requires fewer pesticides than cotton. Flax is also entirely zero-waste: its fibres become linen, while the remaining parts are used for food, animal bedding, building materials, and fuel.
